Superman and Lois by alexmax Superman and Lois by alexmax
This week Superman vs. The Elite came out, I haven't seen it yet, I'll have to wait a little. "What's so Funny About Truth, Justice and The American Way?" from Action Comics #775 is one of my favorite stories from one of my favorite times in Superman comics. I always believed that Action #775 would've worked as a Superman movie, it happened in animated format, which is fine.

From the reviews I've read the story is good, but the animation/character designs are always mentioned as something that should've been improved. When I saw the first few character design images released, I liked them, but thought those were not the best fit for a story like that from Action# 775. Then with the first clips I noticed how such stylized designs required very fluid animation to support them, and these DC Animated movies just don't have the budget for that.

So, as an exercise I wanted to see what I could come up with if I had to design a Superman and a Lois that adhered closer to Doug Mahnke's art from the comic. These 2 don't belong with the series of lineups I've been doing, in fact, I inked/color these in Photoshop and not in Illustrator as per usual. For the first time doing something like this in Photoshop, they turned out decent, I believe.

Hope you guys like. Comments always welcomed.

(edit: after submitting it last night, I noticed there was something bothering me with Lois' face. Nothing major, so I tweaked it a little bit. Also desaturated the background somewhat)

I like most of the Superman animated movies mostly because I just like Superman, VS the Elite wasn't bad it had its flaws but all and all I enjoyed it.

I finally saw "vs. The Elite" some weeks ago, and it was good. The story was good, but then again the comic (Action 775) was awesome. I wish some bits from the comic could've made it to the comic, like the giant cyber-gorilla that was gutted in Lybia, or the team of Japanese villains, but I understand why they couldn't include such violent scenes (even if the movie is supposed to be PG-13)... I mean, they couldn't even allow Manchester Black to smoke, and I thought smoking was okay as long is it was a bad guy smoking.

As for the character designs, which a lot of reviews mentioned as a problem, I think that if those same designs had been supported with better animation most people wouldn't have minded.

Still, one of my favorite DC Animated features behind Wonder Woman, Crisis on Two Earths and tied with Public Enemies.

Yeah I'm a Supes fan anyways I tend to love the Superman stuff usually his animated movies aren't done as well as the Batman ones stylized anyways, The thing I like about Superman is he's so strong he could kill any of these guys he goes against but he has this strong morale belief that he does not want to sink to their level unless its a last resort, Machester Black was always one of those great villians that sort of pushed the envelope with Superman I was happy to see this story arc get a movie I'm hoping to see more Superman stuff from WB and DC with the new movie coming out next year I'd love to see some more of the Superman Batman story arcs done as well.
