This week Superman vs. The Elite came out, I haven't seen it yet, I'll have to wait a little. "What's so Funny About Truth, Justice and The American Way?" from Action Comics #775 is one of my favorite stories from one of my favorite times in Superman comics. I always believed that Action #775 would've worked as a Superman movie, it happened in animated format, which is fine.
From the reviews I've read the story is good, but the animation/character designs are always mentioned as something that should've been improved. When I saw the first few character design images released, I liked them, but thought those were not the best fit for a story like that from Action# 775. Then with the first clips I noticed how such stylized designs required very fluid animation to support them, and these DC Animated movies just don't have the budget for that.
So, as an exercise I wanted to see what I could come up with if I had to design a Superman and a Lois that adhered closer to Doug Mahnke's art from the comic. These 2 don't belong with the series of lineups I've been doing, in fact, I inked/color these in Photoshop and not in Illustrator as per usual. For the first time doing something like this in Photoshop, they turned out decent, I believe.
Hope you guys like. Comments always welcomed.
(edit: after submitting it last night, I noticed there was something bothering me with Lois' face. Nothing major, so I tweaked it a little bit. Also desaturated the background somewhat)
