Marvel Universe Vol1: Avengers

Description

While I am (was?) a DC fan boy, for some years I was a Marvel zombie. When I was a little kid my favorites were Superman and Spider-man, but by 1990 I was only into Marvel, mostly because I had easier access to their comics. Last thing I remember from Marvel was that Peter Parker was a clone, and the "real" Spider-Man had been gone since before I was even born, Wolverine was some sort of ape in a pirate bandana and the Avengers had been banished to a different plane of existence and had lousy outfits. I went (back) to Superman and DC, and never looked back.

So, after that boring story, here are The Avengers. Picked a good time to do this, now that I really can't stand DC either. What a coincidence that some of the "masterminds" behind Marvel's debacle in the mid-90's are now spearheading the DCnU crapola.

Spider-Man: He was my favorite Marvel character. Along with Superman, he has one of the few costumes that are "perfect" and need not be mess around with. One of the reasons that Kyle Rayner was my 2nd favorite DC character is that the GL is pretty much the Peter Parker of the DCU.

Thor: My 2nd favorite Marvel character, in "classic Kirby pose". Gave him a look that has a little of everything:equal parts classic, modern and movie Thor.

Iron Man: Was never a huge fan of Tony, but the first movie is, hands down, my favorite superhero movie, behind The Incredibles (despite being a DC fan, the Batman -Burton or Nolan- movies do nothing for me, less said about Superman Returns, the better). To reflect that, this Iron Man is somewhat inspired by the movie, but is not at all movie-accurate.

Captain America: Was planning to see the movie, BUT Paramount is not distributing movies to Venezuela at the moment :-/

Spider-Woman: Had a hard time figuring out which female Avengers I wanted to draw. Spider-Woman wasn't "active" during my time reading Marvel, but I remembered watching reruns of the cartoon as a kid, and the latin-american intro had a super catchy tune! :)

Scarlet Witch: Other than Sersi, Scarlet was the other female Avenger I remember from back in the day (well, and the other Spider-Woman with the black Spidey costume).

Hulk: Tried to make a super-angry/demented Hulk. Heavily inspired by Ed McGuinness' Hulk, who I only guess based his Hulk on John Romita Sr.'s Hulk.

So there, The Avengers. Next up: I'm thinking I'll be back at some DC Comics villainy, and I'm not talking about drawing DiDio, Johns, Harras, Lee, Morrison or Liefield!

Why couldn't you draw the Wasp instead of Spider-Woman? Wasp is practically the heart of the Avengers. I'm also convinced that Spider-Man shouldn't even coexist with the Avengers let alone be part of the team.
