DCU Vol. 12: JSA Founders by alexmax DCU Vol. 12: JSA Founders by alexmax
The Founding members of the JSA, well with a few modern age partners. I'm not a huge fan of the JSA, even if this is the second time I do a line up for this team. Unlike Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman, who are updated constantly and live in an eternal "present time", the old JSA members still have an origin which puts them fighting in WW2, which means they are well into their eighties or nineties. At least Captain America never ages. I understand their powers make them age slowly, or whatever, but that could've worked until 15 or 20 years ago, how long can DC keep it up?

Of course they can't just "retire" the characters, as I'm sure every single one of them is someone's favorite hero. An option is to retire them in modern continuity, and publish their adventures as they happen in the 1940's. Another idea is to have them in one of the "alternate earths" that happens to be trapped in a time loop where WW2 is always going on.

Sentinel: The original Green Lantern. What a funky uniform! It's a miracle Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman turned out so well, when compared to other contemporary superhero costumes. No wonder they had to be displaced by newer versions during the Silver Age.

The Flash: Same as above. What's the deal with the poofy shirt sleeves? :B

Doctor Fate: Much better uniform! Not based on any particular version of Fate. Recicled most of the body from Hourman in Vol. 5.

Wildcat: Much bigger body than anyone else in this lineup... and he is supposed to be a senior citizen? The extra bandages on his shin/calf area suggest that he isn't just a boxer.

Starman: The Jack Knight Starman. I've read good things about the Vertigo run of Starman. Is it worth checking out?

Jakeem J. Thunder and the Thunderbolt: Not too happy with how the thunderbolt turned out, but it's fine.

Sandman: Wesley Dodds, the other Sandman. Based not on the comics, but on some cosplay pictures I saw while my google research.

Next up: Another "sequel" to a previous lineup! (hint: there's an upcoming summer movie about it)

Beautiful work, but I would have made a different background for GreeenLantern as he was a magical guy not scifi as his next gen.
Remember these characters are supposed to be "eternal".
When DC made the Crisis in the 80s they did so in orer to eliminate certain characters including Supergirl, but certain ownership rights, copyrights, trademarks and the fans did not allowed for that to happen.

Eh, sip.

Great job. Really digging Jack Knight. He's my favorite super hero. And the 90's Starman is my all time favorite series. It is a series I'd highly recommend checking out. It also helps explain some of the aging stuff. Some of the originals were trapped in another dimension where time moved differently for awhile. Doctor Fate is actually an immortal being residing in the helmet. Different people have worn it. Jakeem and Jack are actually modern versions. Jack father Ted was the WW II Starman and Johnny Thunder controlled the genie Thunderbolt back then.

Some of it I know, but I'm fuzzy on the details, cause I never really followed the JSA.

Funny how DC went and "revamped" the more mainstream superheroes instead...hehehe *sobs*. Whatever, it's not like it will last long.

Will read me some Starman Omnibus when I get a chance.

Thank you. It's not so much that I don't like the JSA, I do, but I guess some of the old characters seem redundant now... but then, what the hell do I know, when DC now has several Batmen, several Flashes, and apparently several of each major character running around at the same time. I can understand the Green Lanterns, since they were always an "army", and there are enough fans for each of the 5 main Lanterns (even if I liked it when Kyle was the last of his kind). :-/

I guess I like the old school style of it. Plus, if you read JSA, they have some good stories.
I think they are different characters than what you normally see and I think that is another reason I find them interesting.

I´ve heard that the first few trades where they were re-introduced are great. I'm kinda interested since I liked those years for the DCU.

Amazing the things you see late at night...I think I'm a cousin to McNider at times...

Great job again! I think that Fate and Flash turned out the best, Sandman too. Not quite as familiar with the rest (I'm from the Jordan Gen...heheheh). But I do know about Flash, and I agree on the weird shirt. Hello? Loose clothes = drag on a Speedster! At least the helmet is functional...and a homage to Hermes...

P.S: really stopped paying attention after the Crisis on Infinite Earths (no get started...), but I still kind of like some new characters, at least before they start messing them up in the interests of shock value to sell books. But I just have to say...Starman's staff looks familiar. Being used by someone else now? I think I caught that!

"McNider", you made me google that, cause I was not getting the reference. Dr. Mid-nite, of course! Guess it shows I'm not that well versed with the JSA. Almost included Dr. Mid-Nite, but went with Jakeem Thunder, so the lineup wasn't made all of white dudes. I should do a desktop background, or something, with all the JSAers done till now and add Dr. Mid-Nite and Liberty Belle.

Like you, I've mostly stopped paying attention to the current DC Comics, except I started reading after the original Crisis in Infinite Earths and they made me stop reading during Identity Crisis.

... and Starman's staff, yes, it now belongs to the Star-spangled Kid, or as she is known now: Stargirl.

I have an almost complete set of the original DC Who's Who series that they did, which I reference a lot (and reread a lot, natch). I much prefer my old comics, and I'm constantly trying to fill holes in my series! But I'm glad that you got who I was talking about...and I forgot about Liberty Belle. There sure were a lot of "USA" themed heroes around WWII! Remember Miss America?

And I was right about the staff *does victory dance*
