DCU Vol. 11: The Occult by alexmax DCU Vol. 11: The Occult by alexmax
This volume is "dead-icated" (bad pun, sorry :B) to the spirits, ghouls and demons in the DC Universe. No household/popular names this time around, I believe, but I've been meaning to do this supernatural-themed lineup for the longest time.

Etrigan a.k.a. The Demon: except for the covered legs, it's the Etrigan we all know. Sometimes it looks like Jason Blood is in control of the Demon's actions, sometimes it's clear the Demon is in control (I never followed him up much except for his appearances in crossovers). I think that, like the Hulk, it's better when J. Blood can't control his alter-ego, but he is forced to call upon him to defeat a greater evil.

The Spectre: I took a page from what they did with the DC animated "The Spectre" short, and hid the lower half of his body in shadows.

Morpheus a.k.a. The Sandman; a.k.a The Dream: Another one of those comics I've never read, but have always meant to. Heard it's really good.

Deadman: The hood is not an original idea of mine (it rarely is an original idea) I saw another artist's work, done in a much more cartoony way, that had Deadman with a hood, and thought it looked so much better than the silly circus performer collar he normally has.

Phantom Stranger: It was important to me that he looked different enough from "my" Question, because, as someone commented on that piece, they could end up looking the same.

Silver Banshee: It's Silver Banshee.

Gentleman Ghost: I've only seen him in that cameo in one of the last few episodes of JLU, but he must be a big deal 'cause he has an action figure by Mattel. I guess it's one of those old "Mort of the month" that was brought back to prominence by the current DC Comics regime.

Hope you like this. Next up: a "sequel" to one of the previous volumes. hehehe

I'm certainly not going to waste time with New52 DC, but I might do 1 more with some random DC characters I'd still like to try to do. B)

Now, about your Marvel suggestions, Doom and The Thing will certainly be there when I make something with the Fantastic Four. Magneto and Colossus are from the X-Men, and I already did what I had planned with the X-Men. Thor, you probably saw him in my Avengers lineup! :)

In the DCnU, it was implied that the Phantom Stranger is none another than...

SPOILER: Judas Iscariot himself.

Bah, DCnU. As far as I am concerned it doesn't exist. ;) DC died a quiet death sometime before Identity Crisis. :P

Wish I could say that's my idea, I saw it somewhere and it stuck with me. Can't remember who did it first, or I would credit that artist!

Thanks for the comment. :)

Yus, Sandman is awesome. Don't forget Death to do all 7 of the Endless.

I've noticed Death does have a big fan following. Will have to figure out how can I squeeze her in one of the lineups.

Thanks for the comment. :)

It's better that you hid the bottom half of the Spectre. :')

Bit disappointed that you didn't include Doctor Occult in your occult set, though. Then again, he's not dead... hm.

Had never heard of Doctor Occult before! Just read he is another Siegel and Shuster creation, interesting. Looks like Dick Tracy. I'm surprised there hasn't been a revival for him, considering how much DC loves to bring back long forgotten characters... oh, wait! It's only for silver age characters.

I think he was one of the first "mystery men," for DC, so it's a bit sad they don't have his legacy properly in place.

He had a second feature in the Reign in Hell mini-series. Matt Smith drew a great, curmudgeony version in Day of Judgment. :) As always, Books of Magic is just stunning to look at, regardless of the characters involved.

Love your version of the specter and your write-ups but you get my FAV for depicting Etrigan, that little loved but so damn funny master of verse from old Detective comics of yore. Great compilation.

Yes! I really like when the writers make an effort to have Etrigan talk in rhymes. Sometimes he doesn't speak like that, and I wonder if that is laziness or if there is a justification for it (like Jason Blood, being the dominant personality, talking and not the demon? Like when Hulk was smart.).

Thanks for dropping a comment :)

Well, like I said, I cannot take full credit for it since it's inspired on a redesign someone else did. Wish I could remember where I saw that.

My intention with this series of fanart has been to represent the characters "at their very best" (according to my point of view, of course). Sometimes, that means drawing them with the outfit from my favorite era, other times I just do an amalgamation of different looks the character has had, or some "original" tweaks of my own.

Good to read you approve of it. :)

This is amazing! =D I like the lineup of supernatural characters there - I know every single one... well, except for Silver Banshee. Spectre, Etrigan, Deadman and Phantom Stranger are the ones I come across quite often, simply because I read so many Phantom Stranger comic appearances and he has met them many times. Gentleman Ghost is a great villain whom I had come across a few times in comics and seen a couple of his appearances in BATB. Sandman on the other hand is not new for me, but I haven't read through many comics of it.

Sorry, I got carried away. But as said, this is a great lineup with a very nice style for the characters! I especially like the style you did to The Phantom Stranger, Spectre and Gentleman Ghost (which the first one looks like in BATB). =D Their scenes/backgrounds are so nicely done too! Great work! :+fav:

Heheh, hey, no worries! I really enjoy comments. I try to respond to every one of them (even if maybe not as fast as I should)!

While I've only seen a handful of BATB episodes (good show, but a little too "retro" for me), I did check out the designs they did for Phantom Stranger and The Spectre. There was an episode where they had them together waging on Batman's soul. Maybe the best episode from the few I've seen. :B

Thank you for the comment. Fell free to comment whenever you drop by. :)

Yes, frankly I don't watch every single episode of BATB - it's not really my cup of tea. But I have watched some great epiodes, like "Chill of the Night" as you mentioned and the one with The Music Meister. :) Those are my top fave episodes. Another great episode was the one with Etrigan and Gentleman Ghost (I can't remember the episode name), and not to forget the episode with Flash Rogues. And of course, The Riddler in "Criss Cross Conspiracy". =D What I kind of liked in BATB is how they design many of the characters: I'm very pleased with their work on Phantom Stranger, Spectre and Weather Wizard. :)

Uh-oh, now I did it again. XD

Without further ado: You're welcome! ^^

Thank you! :) Sandman is a Vertigo title, but the character has made some sporadic appearances in mainstream DC titles. One that comes to mind is during Grant Morrison's JLA run, some story with Starro.
